Our New Supported Living Properties in Walmer, Kent

Located on a quiet residential street in Walmer, a stone's throw away from each other, are two brand-new, spacious, modern properties, named Cormorant and Puffin, that have been specially adapted for supported living. The houses can accommodate four residents each, with individual bedrooms and shared communal spaces, such as a large kitchen, dining room, and living area. Two of the bedrooms in each property have their own private bathrooms and there is a large family bathroom for the remaining two bedrooms. Both properties have spacious private gardens and parking spaces. View video tours and brochures of Cormorant and Puffin here.

The properties are ideal for individuals who are ready to live more independently but still benefit from shared living arrangements. Residents can enjoy the social aspect of living with others while still having their own private space to retreat to when needed.

Both properties are conveniently located close to local amenities, including shops, parks, and public transport links, making it easy for residents to access the resources they need and stay connected to the local community.

The team working at both properties provide flexible, person-centred support, run under the supported living framework, with all staff trained in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and active support approaches to ensure they are embedded into everyday life. There will be a focus on improving quality of life, with input from the specialist PBS team.

The team will provide support with everything from daily living tasks to emotional and behavioural support. Whether residents need assistance managing their schedules or accessing community services, a supportive environment is offered that promotes independence and well-being.

Walmer, Kent

Walmer, a charming coastal town near Deal in East Kent, provides the ideal location for our new supported living properties. Known for its scenic beauty and quiet, friendly community, Walmer offers a tranquil setting while still providing residents with access to local amenities and recreational activities. The nearby promenade, parks, and peaceful countryside make Walmer an appealing place for individuals looking for a balance between independence and supported care.

As a part of Kent which boasts a range of resources and networks for people with disabilities, Walmer allows Aspens to extend our reach to more individuals and families who can benefit from our services.

What is Supported Living?

Supported living is a flexible service that offers people with disabilities the opportunity to live in their own homes while receiving tailored support to manage day-to-day tasks, such as personal care, cooking, cleaning, and managing finances.

Supported living is designed to encourage independence. Residents are provided with the help they need to live as autonomously as possible, whether it’s through having a support worker on-site or a tailored care package.

At Aspens, we understand that no two individuals are alike. Each person comes with their own aspirations, abilities, and challenges, so our supported living services are person-centred. We work closely with residents and their families to create care plans that cater specifically to their needs.

Key Benefits of Aspens’ Supported Living Services

Our new properties in Walmer offer more than just a place to live—they provide an opportunity for residents to grow, learn new skills, and feel part of a supportive community. Here are some of the key benefits of choosing Aspens’ supported living services in Walmer:

1. Independence with Tailored Support

At Aspens, we empower our residents to achieve as much autonomy as possible, while ensuring they have access to the necessary support. We work with each individual to identify their goals—whether it’s learning to cook, managing their own schedules, or simply living with greater freedom. Our team is always on hand to provide the assistance needed, with the balance between independence and care carefully monitored and adjusted as required.

2. A Safe and Nurturing Environment

Both of our new Walmer properties have been designed with safety and comfort in mind. Our properties have open, bright spaces that encourage both socialisation and privacy, allowing residents to interact with others in communal areas while having their own quiet, personal space when they need it.

Additionally, all Aspens’ supported living properties are staffed by highly trained and compassionate team members. Whether providing support with daily tasks or assisting with personal care, our team prioritises the physical and emotional well-being of every resident.

3. Integration into the Local Community

Living in the community helps individuals with learning disabilities and those on the autism spectrum feel connected to the world around them. At Aspens, we believe that community integration is vital to an individual’s sense of belonging and mental health. Our team works to help residents access local services, and participate in activities that align with their interests.

The town of Walmer offers a variety of opportunities for residents to engage with the local community, from visiting local shops and cafes to enjoying the nearby seafront and parks. Aspens encourages residents to take part in community events, join local groups, and explore employment or volunteering opportunities, helping them to lead more fulfilling, active lives.

4. Lifelong Learning and Skill Development

Aspens is committed to lifelong learning, and our supported living services reflect this philosophy. Our team helps residents build essential life skills, from cooking and cleaning to managing money and making decisions. These skills not only enhance residents' independence but also foster a sense of achievement and confidence.

5. A Person-Centred Approach to Care

One of the standout features of Aspens’ services is our commitment to person-centred care. We understand that every person’s needs, aspirations, and challenges are different. Our support packages are designed in collaboration with the individual and their family to ensure that care is truly tailored.

Whether it’s help with everyday tasks or more intensive care, our team is fully equipped to provide the right level of support in a way that respects the resident’s independence and dignity.
