We are delighted and hugely proud to announce that Megan Bruce, Positive Behaviour Support Transition Coordinator at Aspens, was named as Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Champion at the Kent Care Awards 2023, on Friday 22 September.

The judges chose Megan as the winner in this category in recognition of her hard work and dedication using the PBS framework to support people on the autism spectrum and with learning disabilities, using a person-centred approach to enhance all areas of their lives. Megan supports people aged 16 and over to transition to supported living services at Aspens, after placements which have broken down, or after transferring from mental health facilities or live-in school placements.

Megan impressed the judging panel when describing how she has overcome challenges faced and how she has worked to integrate PBS across Aspens' services.

Megan said: "It is absolutely wonderful to win this award. I'm part of an excellent team at Aspens who are dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of people on the autism spectrum and with learning disabilities using a Positive Behaviour framework. We have seen some truly amazing changes in the people we support, some of whom were formerly living in hospital for long periods of time, and are now living full, varied, sociable and happy lives with us at Aspens. It is fantastic to have this so publicly recognised."

Meraud Davis, Regional Area Manager for PBS Services at Aspens, said: “We couldn’t be prouder of Megan, not only for what she has achieved personally, but also for what she has achieved for the people we support.  Getting things right from the very beginning is key in any successful transition and Megan’s ability to instantly connect with people and understand their needs is second to none.  She is a vital and valuable member of the PBS team and we are all very proud of her.

We are also enormously proud of Ollie Payne, PBS Specialist, our People Department and the support team at Aspens' PBS supported living service, Rosewood, who were all also finalists for the awards. To have so many individuals and teams reach the finalist stage of these prestigious awards highlights the incredible hard work, dedication and professionalism of the Aspens' staff team.
